Last Saturday I photographed the 12th annual King Pan festival at the Iu Mien cultural center in Oakland. An indigenous southeast Asian people, the Iu Mien are culturally similar to the larger and more politically active Hmong, and have faced centuries of oppression under the Chinese government. Obviously, I'm still learning about the history. But it was fun to take the pictures, and I got to try raw ground beef salad. It was excellent.

All dishes were prepared in a simple and historically correct method, and the quantities of meat were, um, large. Still working on a final edit, but here are a couple that caught my eye.
